Year 5 2021 - 2022
Miss Isabelle Kidd
Welcome to Year 5!
We have attached below a more detailed Termly Overview, which will provide you with a list of topics and subjects taught in Year 5 throughout the first Spring term.
This half term, there will be a Geography theme - The Maya - which will be a focus throughout. In English, we will be identifying facts and information relating to the Maya and this will help us when creating our non-chronological reports. We will also be exploring a range of poetry, writing and performing our own poems.
Maths objectives will continue to be linked to White Rose, concentrating on fractions, specifically on equivalent, mixed number and improper fractions and we will also investigate decimals. We will focus and use various concrete, pictorial and written methods to consolidate our understanding and recognise the relationship between each operation.
In Science we will complete investigations and research linked to Forces. In this topic, we will further research water resistance. Also, develop our understanding of balanced and unbalanced forces and their effects and investigate how mechanisms, like levers, pulleys and gears, help us to use smaller forces.
This term, both Year 5 classes will experience and join Forest School. It offers an approach to learning that takes the children into the great outdoors whatever the weather, to explore the natural environment. It will run through the term and is a nature-based learning program that concentrates on holistic development and growth.
Please see the overview below to find out about learning in other areas of our Year 5 curriculum.
