Special Educational Needs & Disability
Our school vision is “Children First”.
Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School is a mainstream primary school with 15 classes as well as a Nursery class. In our school, we recognise that all children are different and have diverse learning needs. As a result, we make sure that we tailor all of our learning opportunities to meet the needs of individual children. We believe that cheerful, included, confident and motivated children work harder and make better progress. In order to achieve this, many steps are taken to support the children throughout their learning journey.
Our school Special Educational Needs Coordinator is Mrs Katie Jones who has completed the National Award for Special Educational Needs.
We are committed to the early identification of SEND and we adopt a graduated approach which recognises that children learn in different ways and have different needs. We acknowledge that there is a continuum of special educational needs and that, where necessary, increasing specialist expertise will be called upon to advise and support on the difficulties that a child may experience.
You as parents will be heavily involved at every stage as we recognise that you are the people who know your child the best. Working together with the class teacher and Mrs Jones, a SEND plan will be set up to further support your child.
Further details about SEND and the provision we are proud to offer here at Overleigh can be found in the schools SEND Report and SEND Policy which can be accessed by clicking the links below.
