Cantabile

Cantabile is a choir of singers from Years 5 & 6 which first began in 1996. Membership of this choir is by audition only. Year 4 children have recently auditioned and joined Cantabile in May 2015. We sing a wide variety of music, very often in 2 or 3 parts. We rehearse every Monday after school, from 3.30 - 4.30pm in the school hall.

Cantabile is well-known as a music group within the local community and is often invited to sing at concerts in and around Chester. We have sung in most of the main venues in Chester - Cathedral, Town Hall, Guildhall, Northgate Arena, St. Mary's Centre, Eaton Hall and several local churches. We have performed in concerts for several national charities, notably Cancer Research UK, RNLI, British Heart Foundation, Save the Family and the Hospice.
We have sung at several weddings for teachers at Overleigh St. Mary's. In July 2009, we sang at Miss Leven's wedding and then in October we sang at Mr. Jones' where we were also joined by several previous members of the choir from four different Chester high schools. Both of these weddings were in St. Mary's Church, Handbridge. In July 2010 we sang at Miss Stokes' wedding in Rossett.

In the school year 2010-11 we were invited to sing in three concerts outside of school. The first was at the Queens School for Chester Music Society. The second was at All Saints Church with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir. Here we were also joined by Chester Schools' Concert Band. We also performed in a concert in April with the Chester Music Society's two youth choirs at All Saints Church in Hoole.

In 2011-12 we were asked to perform in 3 concerts for different groups.
On Friday 3rd February we had a hugely successful concert at St. Andrew's Handbridge URC, performed to a packed church. Cantabile performed the majority of the concert and were joined by the choir and groups of instrumentalists. Everyone was very impressed by the standards of performance ("superb", "fantastic", "wonderful" and "excellent" were just some of the words used to describe the event), the enthusiasm and enjoyment shown while performing, and by the behaviour of all the children - they were great ambassadors for our school. Well done everyone!!!!!
In March we joined Catholic High School at Eaton Hall in a concert for the RNLI and in April we sang at All Saints' Church, Hoole in a concert of music for the Queen's Jubilee, with Chester St. Cecilia Singers & other Primary schools.

In the following school year (2012-13) we started with a very busy first term, singing at the Christmas Fair, the KS2 Carol Service in St. Mary's Church and also in a concert with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir at All Saints' Church. In all of these events we joined forces with the choir. We then performed in a concert in school at the beginning of the summer term where we again joined the choir and also the orchestra this time to put on a concert for parents. This included the cantata "Adam-in-Eden" by Michael Hurd.

As we started a new school year (2013-14), we already had a booking for our first concert on Saturday 16th November. This time we performed with the Highfield Male Voice Choir from Runcorn and a ladies choir from the Wirral. The concert took place at St Mary's Centre in Chester and was a huge success, raising in excess of £850 for 'Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research'. We then sang at the KS2 Carol Service in December.

We had a concert in school booked for Thursday 12th June which also involved all pupils having instrumental lessons in school. We also had advance bookings for 2 concerts for the next school year: with the Highfield Male Voice Choir again on Saturday 8th November and with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir on Saturday 6th December 2014. All of these concerts were a huge success.

In 2015 we have been working to extend our repertoire of songs and are now working towards another concert in school on Wednesday 24th June, which will also involve all instrumental groups. We also have again received an advance booking for Saturday 14th November with Highfield Male Voice Choir.

What's being said?
